It was 2019, and I had a stomach ache for a few years. Drs didn't seem to do much and chalked it up to a fibroid. Well, it was full-blown Stage 3B cancer. Needless to say, it has changed my life and my path.
Due to that experience, my art changed. My focus is now on The transformation that art can help create in our lives and how it can help to heal. For the first time, I was drawing nearly every day, and instead of an outside-my-body experience, it was inward and a release of fears, tensions, and confusion. I didn't realize it then, but I now know I was sorting all the changes, the information, the processes, the treatments, the past, and the future, and working on staying alive and getting well again. I started doing visualization artwork and did that throughout the whole Cancer process. When I was on "the flip side" and with what the cancer world will call "good/great," I kept drawing. I started a continuous line project I call What's in my head.... that evolved into What am I thinking? Then I slowed down for a few months and was part of a Courage workshop about breaking our fears down and leaving them behind ourselves. That led to meditative painting and a more "spiritual" paint art path now. This "evolution" has been evolving for four years if you count when I was diagnosed. It has been unique, enlighting, and encouraging. My path now is to help others see, feel, and learn how drawing, ie creativity, lines, scribbles, and colors can help us all through our daily days. Stressed? Illness? Frustration? Art can help you too!
